Zubeen Garg Death: The mysterious death of Assam’s popular singer Zubeen Garg will be unveiled today. The SIT investigating the case will file a huge charge sheet of 3500 pages in a court in Guwahati today. This chargesheet is based on the interrogation of more than 300 witnesses, forensic reports and the findings of the Singapore Police. The SIT clearly said that Garg’s death while swimming in the sea off Singapore on September 19, 2025 was not an accident but a planned murder. There are seven accused in Garg’s murder, which include Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, cousin Sandipan Garg, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta and PSOs Nandeshwar Bora and Praveen Baishya. All are currently in judicial custody. In the charge sheet, they have been accused of criminal conspiracy, negligence and murder.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said in the Assembly on November 25 that this is a clear case of murder. SIT Chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta said that the charge sheet has been filed under CID case number 18/2025. It contains evidence related to Garg’s event at North East India Festival (NEIF) in Singapore. Gupta said, ‘We recorded statements of more than 300 people, including Garg’s wife Garima. The target was to file the charge sheet between December 6-12, so that the accused do not get bail before the deadline of December 18. The investigation includes the Singapore Police report, findings of the Assam Forensic Lab and videos from the incident site.

Garg’s death shocked not only Assam but the entire country. The 52-year-old singer had gone to Singapore to perform at NEIF. There was news of drowning while swimming in the sea, but the SIT declared it a murder. It is alleged that the accused deliberately took Garg to a dangerous place, where there was a shortage of life guards. Mahanta had called Garg in the name of the event, while Sharma was negligent in security. Sandipan Garg, who is DSP, is also suspected to be involved in the conspiracy. After this incident, more than 60 FIRs were registered in Assam.
Demand for fast-track court
After the filing of the charge sheet, the demand for fast-track court has intensified. Gaurav Gogoi demanded justice in Parliament, where he described Garg as the cultural king of Assam. The opposition said that the SIT report should be transparent. CM Sarma assured that the investigation will continue. All the culprits will be punished. Garg’s fans are now waiting for justice.
