Quick Delivery Apps: When you were young, when your mother had to order many things, she would give you some money and send them to a nearby shop. You used to go immediately on a bicycle and bring your goods back, but now this era has been left behind. Now you can get everything from food to vegetables and fruits through your phone. You tuck, tuck, tuck, open one or two apps on the phone and your goods are ordered instantly. There is no tension of going out nor do you need to move from the bed. The goods themselves move from the app’s cart and reach your doorstep at the hands of the delivery boy. But have you ever thought that the apps which are delivering food, fruits, bread, milk-curd to you in 5-10 minutes are slowly making a hole in your pocket. Now you must be thinking that how can this happen because you order the goods of your choice and also make offers, due to which your goods become cheaper, then how come your pockets are getting empty because of these apps.
If you are using these apps every day then you are making a big mistake in your life because you are following this process only out of laziness and convenience. You don’t feel like going out. If you don’t want to go out in the sun, you immediately take out your phone and place the order. Because of using these apps you are becoming poor. But it is very important to understand how these apps are making you poor.
Your pocket becomes loose due to platform fees
First of all, Zomato has made at least one dopli in Swiggy food delivery for the longest time. Dopli means a market which is controlled by two large players. That means, if you want food delivery, you will either order Zomato or Swiggy. Now first of all let’s talk about their platform fees. This is the charge that you will have to pay to use the platform. It started with ₹ 2 and then you thought what could be done with ₹ 2.
After this, it gradually kept increasing and reached from Rs 2 to Rs 100 on many platforms. You wonder what will happen if you pay a platform fee of a few rupees on the goods you are ordering. These companies also know that when customers order any item, whether it is for Rs 2 or Rs 5, they will automatically ignore it. Within 14 months this charge has increased five times and people are not even aware of this. If anything increases five times in 14 months, people will go to the streets. Suppose if your rent increases five times in 14 months, you will definitely reach the police station in anger. But you do not face any problem in paying money to these apps because in reality you do not know how much money they are withdrawing from you.
handling charges
Let us tell you that handling charges are charged for handling the order. It can range from ₹13 to ₹21 or more, actually depending on the size of the order. There is also a search charge if it is raining or it is difficult to deliver the order and although each of these apps offers free delivery for a fixed order value which is around ₹ 200, these handling charges are always there. Delivery may be free but handling charges are never zero. For example, if you order milk, bread or any other item whose total value is ₹ 45, then handling charge of ₹ 15 and delivery fee of ₹ 20 may be imposed on it. Since the order is less than the value, delivery fee will also be added.
dark patterns
Dark patterns mean showing different prices of goods on two different phones. Like iPhone users and Android users. Because they know that iPhone users are more price flexible because they have bought an iPhone. So what might be worth ₹20 can be priced at ₹30 or even ₹35 on iPhone. The reason behind this is not clear yet. Secondly, if dark pattern products have an MRP, their price should not fluctuate. But that keeps changing on these apps. If there is high demand for something in the morning, its price will be shown higher. If it is not that much in the afternoon then MRP will reduce. When it starts increasing again in the evening, it will be increased again. Whereas, those products which do not have MRP. Most of the vegetables or fruits are priced at any price. By calling anything imported, its price increases.
Just think to yourself how many orders you make in a month and then actually look at their bank statement. On top of that, people also take subscription of these apps. Due to which they feel like ordering again and again because these users feel that they will get more benefits by ordering the goods. But in reality these apps are secretly emptying your pockets and making you poor.
