Hirmaram Markam, a farmer from Sukma, Chhattisgarh, earlier used to do farming relying on rain. But the Dabri built under MNREGA changed his life completely. Due to the construction of Dabri, today Hiramaram is earning lakhs of rupees every year through farming and fish farming.
Hiramaram, who had only 2 acres of land, was earlier able to do farming only in the Kharif season. Due to lack of irrigation, the fields remained empty for the rest of the months. But due to the construction of a pond in their field, they are now doing farming and fish farming even during summer.
After construction of Dabri, Hiramaram started fish farming along with farming in his land. Initially he put only 5 kg of fish seed, but the result was much more than expected. Today this Dabri has become a source of additional income of about Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand for him every year.
