Guwahati new airport: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this new terminal of Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on 20 December. Spread over about 1.4 lakh square meters, this terminal has the capacity to handle 1.3 crore passengers annually. Major upgrades have also been made to the runway, taxiway and airfield systems. This terminal is considered to give a new impetus to the connectivity, tourism and economic activities of Assam.
The new terminal of Guwahati shows the identity of Assam from outside. The design with arch shape structure and open space gives passengers a modern and serene experience at the very first step.
As soon as you step inside the terminal, you can see the grand columns and ceiling made of bamboo. This design directly connects the culture and nature of Assam with the airport.
The lighting of the terminal at night makes it more special. The lighting and bamboo structure together give it a look like an international airport.

The green area and plantation built inside the terminal gives a forest-like feel to the passengers. The theme inspired by Kaziranga is clearly visible here.
Long walkways and bamboo roofs make movement of passengers easy. The design is such that the space feels open even when it is crowded.
The lower floors are decorated with green zones and digital screens. Here one gets a glimpse of the sky forest with about 1 lakh local plants.
