Begusarai: With time winter has started showing its strength. A continuous decline is being seen in day and night temperatures. In such a situation, night shelters are specially prepared by the city council for the destitute and homeless people so that they can get support. Government funds are also spent on a large scale for this. To investigate this, Local 18 reached Bakhri Municipal Council area of Begusarai. When asked about the address of the night shelter in the area, most of the people had no answer. The needy people living here did not even know what a night shelter was. After a lot of searching, a night shelter was found here…
Local people revealed the truth
Local residents Mayaram Sahni and Chandrakishore Paswan opened the lock of the night shelter in front of Local 18’s camera. Everyone was stunned to see the view inside. There was filth all around, no bedding, no blankets, no water, no toilets and no security arrangements. Local people told that a sweeper had stayed here about six months ago, after that no one came to stay here.
Chandrakishore Paswan told that the night shelter is always closed, hence needy people do not come here.
Difference between the president’s claims and reality
Municipal Council Bakhri Chairperson Geeta Kushwaha has claimed through local newspapers that a temporary night shelter has been started in Shakarpura Panchayat Bhawan to provide relief from the cold. According to the claim, the night shelter has the facilities of bedding, blanket, mosquito net, bonfire, drinking water, toilet and hand pump. But in Local 18’s ground report, the ground reality of these claims appeared to be different.
serious questions arising
In the ground report, local people said that no one has come to stay here for the last six months, while reports of many people staying in night shelters have been published in local newspapers recently. In such a situation, the question arises whether government funds are being misused in the name of night shelter system? Is the ground reality being hidden by making everything appear fine on paper? Now people’s eyes are fixed on the district administration. It is expected that the entire matter will be investigated at the DM level and the truth will be brought out.
