G20 summit LIVE South Africa : The G20 summit is currently being organized in South Africa. Today, on the second day of the conference, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had an in-depth discussion on the Ukraine war and the situation in Gaza. Both leaders said in a joint statement that it is necessary to ensure Kiev’s participation and its security in any agreement related to Ukraine. On Gaza, he supported the Comprehensive Peace Plan and insisted on allowing entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza on a large scale. Apart from this, Canada and Germany also talked about deep partnership in critical minerals, clean energy, AI, aerospace and defense sectors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also participating in the G20 summit held in Johannesburg. He is holding many bilateral meetings during this period. He wrote on X that our commitment towards global progress and prosperity with the G20 leaders is strong. Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that PM Modi made four important proposals in the first session based on One Earth, One Family, One Vision. This is his 12th G20 summit.
Trilateral Technology Agreement with Australia-Canada
Here, PM Modi laid the foundation of India’s trilateral agreement with Australia and Canada. After a meeting on Saturday, he said through a social media post that we are happy to say that the three countries are together on the front of technology, invention and partnership. In this way, we have three democratic partners from three continents coming together in the areas of supply chain, clean energy and artificial intelligence.
Emphasis on fighting drugs and terrorism
Addressing the open session, PM Modi expressed the need to review the global development goals. He also called for a new initiative within the G20 to tackle the drug-terror nexus, so that drug networks and terrorism financing can be hit hard across the world. PM Modi thanked South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for hosting this important summit.

G20 summit: In the third session of G20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while presenting the vision of Fair and a Just Future for All before the world, said that as technology is advancing, opportunities and resources are becoming limited in the hands of a few. Because of this, conflict over critical technology is increasing. PA Modi called for promoting human-centric, global and open source technology models. He told that wide participation is visible in India from digital payments to space technology and AI. High-performance computing is being made accessible across the country through India-AI Mission. However, the Prime Minister warned that to ensure that AI is not misused, there is a need for transparency, deepfakes, ban on the use of AI in crime and terror. PM Modi also said that AI should enhance human capabilities, but the final decisions should always remain in the hands of humans.

G20 summit 2025: At the IBSA meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that India, Brazil and South Africa are unanimous that existing global institutions lag far behind the realities of the 21st century and this fact becomes even more evident when none of these countries is a permanent member of the UN Security Council. PM Modi said that for this reason IBSA should give a message to the world in one voice that institutional reform is no longer an option but a necessity. He also stressed the need for greater coordination between the three countries in the fight against terrorism, saying there should be no room for double standards on this serious subject. The Prime Minister also reminded that the first meeting of the National Security Advisors of the three countries was held during India’s IBSA presidency in 2021 and this can be given permanent institutional form to strengthen security cooperation.
