Ambala. Haryana is witnessing severe weather havoc these days and the Meteorological Department has also issued a cold alert for a few days. In such a situation, amidst this severe cold in Ambala district, the district administration has taken a big initiative for the needy people. Because night shelters have been set up in four major areas of the city i.e. Ambala City, Ambala Cantonment, Barara and Narayangarh, where any person can stay for free at night and all the facilities ranging from warm quilts to hot water and clean toilets have been provided by the administration.
Ambala Red Cross Secretary Vijayalakshmi told Local 18 that night shelters have been set up to ensure that no person has to sleep under the open sky in the cold. She said that night shelters have been set up at four different places in Ambala district and quilts, blankets, hot water and other necessary facilities are available for the people coming here.
He told that any person can stay here completely free of cost at night, because this arrangement is being continuously monitored to protect from cold. He also told that this time REDCUS has started a rain shelter in its office and arrangements have also been made for women to stay in the old age home.
Abhishek, supervisor of Ambala Cantonment Night Base, says that many people come here for night stay. In such a situation, complete arrangements have been made for their security as well as night stay. He told that separate night shelters have been made for women and men in Ambala Cantonment. There is 24-hour staff duty here, but all the people coming are given the facility to stay completely free of cost.
He said that there is complete arrangement for hot water, toilets and cleanliness, and daily monitoring is also done. The people staying in the night shelters said that they thank the government. He said that we are getting very good and free facilities for night stay here, quilts, blankets, hot water… everything is there in cold. He said that we are getting a lot of relief, he said that we thank the government which is providing free facilities to the common people.
Arvind, who reached Ambala from Haridwar, told that he is staying at the night shelter at Ambala Cantonment bus stand. He said that he is getting time for all the necessary things at night. Ram Avtaar told that he is a resident of Jansui village and is going to Delhi for some important work. He told that his train got late at night and hence he has now stayed in this night shelter. He said that all kinds of facilities are being provided to the people in these night shelters and along with warm blankets, these night shelter facilities are being provided free of cost.
