Farrukhnagar was once a prosperous town and outpost during the Mughal period. It is a historical town located in Gurugram district, near the border of Jhajjar, about 21 km from the city. Part of the Ahirwal region, the town was founded in 1732 by Faujdar Khan Farrukhnagar, the first Nawab of Farrukhnagar and governor of Emperor Farrukhsiyar.
The town flourished for more than a century due to the salt trade, but it gradually declined at the beginning of the British era and was almost ruined by the beginning of the 20th century. The Mughal period monuments Sheesh Mahal, Stepwell and Jama Masjid still attract tourists.
