Success story: Fulbati Markam, Sarpanch of Churegaon Gram Panchayat of Farsgaon development block of Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh and Secretary of Bihaan Group, is today the identity of women empowerment. Once upon a time, it was difficult to educate children, today the family is self-reliant through fish and poultry farming. With government schemes, training and hard work, she changed her life and became an inspiration for the women of the village.
There was a big change in the life of Fulbati Markam after joining a self-help group in 2011 and actively joining the National Rural Livelihood Mission ‘Bihan’ in 2018. Through Bihan Yojana, they got information about loans, training and livelihood opportunities. This was the real beginning of his becoming self-reliant.
Fulbati started fish farming with the first loan of Rs 5,000 received under the Bihan scheme. He did fish farming scientifically by using the already existing pond in the village. With proper guidance and training, this small effort brought big results and their income increased steadily.
Phulbati Markam earned an income of about Rs 20 thousand from fish farming in the first cycle. After this, he expanded his business by taking loans ranging from Rs 10 thousand to Rs 1 lakh. Today she is earning an annual income of more than Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand from fish farming, due to which the financial condition of the family has completely changed.

Along with fish farming, Phulbati also started poultry farming. Due to this, they started getting additional income and the income sources of the family became stronger. Diversified livelihood activities provided economic security to his family and also reduced risk.
Today Fulbati Markam is not only a successful entrepreneur but also the elected Sarpanch of Churegaon Gram Panchayat. She is motivating the village women to adopt self-employment, take training and become self-reliant. She believes that now women are not just housewives but are becoming economically capable entrepreneurs and changing the direction of the society.
