Benne Cafe Success Story: When a couple from Bengaluru opened their 12-seater restaurant in Bandra area of Mumbai, they had no idea that one day this small cafe would reach a revenue of Rs 1 crore.
Success Story: Late President and great personality Abdul Kalam ji used to say that dream and get busy in fulfilling it. When the Bengaluru couple reached Mumbai, the city of dreams, making these words of Kalam Saheb the motto of their life, they had no idea that one day their success would create such a stir that it would force even the big names to applaud. When this couple brought the desi taste of Dosa to the streets of Mumbai after hard work, they themselves did not believe that one day their monthly earnings would exceed Rs 1 crore.
This is the success story of Akhil Iyer and Shreya Narayana, residents of Bangalore. This couple had come from Karnataka to Mumbai in search of job. He also got a well-paid job in Mumbai, but the desi taste of dosa was missing. He searched all over the city for Bengaluru style crispy dosa dipped in butter but could not find it. Ultimately both of them decided that instead of searching for dosa, the emphasis should be on making it themselves. His journey to success started with just this decision.
The journey of dreams started on the roadside
The couple neither had an MBA degree nor any experience in hotel or restaurant business. There was just a strong desire to do something different. He spent several months making the right batter and chutney for dosa and when he finally had the right formula for the taste, he opened Benne, a 12-seater roadside café in Mumbai. To make good dosa, he ordered a thick pan from Bangalore itself and started serving the taste among the people.
Earnings reached Rs 1 crore
The couple neither did much modern decoration in the restaurant nor did any promotion of it. The customers who used to come and eat there would praise it to other people. Gradually the restaurant started becoming famous for its taste and crowds of people started gathering. Today this small restaurant sells 800 dosas per day. The price of one plate is Rs 250 to Rs 300. In this way, just by selling dosa one can earn Rs 60 to 72 lakh per month. Apart from this, they also earn Rs 20 to 30 lakh from the sale of other things including batter and chutney and the total earning reaches around Rs 1 crore every month.
Gathering of all the celebrities also
The taste of this small cafe became so popular among the people of Mumbai that social media influencers and YouTubers started praising it. When its voice reached the celebrities, the couple’s luck changed. After the visit of stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the cafe, the craze for eating here increased among the people. This is the reason why today this small cafe with 12 seats is giving competition to many big restaurants. The first outlet of this restaurant was in Bandra and its branch has also been opened in Juhu.
