According to Railway Ministry’s ADG PIB Dharmendra Tiwari, due to the vigilance of the ticket checking staff at Jaipur Railway Station, a case of fraud in traveling on fake UTS tickets has come to light. A group of seven passengers traveling from Jaisalmer to Jaipur by train number 12250 was caught during the investigation. He told that passengers should try to buy general tickets from the window or from the app themselves, if buying from outside then buy the ticket from the authorized agent of Railways only.
During investigation, when ticket checking staff Hemraj Gurjar and Deepak Kumar asked for tickets from the passengers, they showed the UTS ticket on their mobile phone and told that they did not have the original ticket, it was with another companion, who had already got down from the station and left.
The ticket shown on the mobile had details of seven adult passengers, which prima facie raised suspicion among the staff, as unreserved tickets are issued only for four passengers. After this, when strictly interrogated, the passengers admitted that they had manipulated the number and amount of passengers in the ticket with the help of AI tool. To confirm the matter, the ticket details were matched with the Jaisalmer station staff, which revealed that the UTS ticket was actually issued for only one passenger, priced at Rs 215. The caught passengers took a photo of this ticket and digitally changed it to show a ticket for seven passengers and showed the amount as Rs 1505.
This was clearly an attempt to defraud the Railways. As per railway rules, a fine of Rs 2790 was imposed on all seven passengers and legal action was taken. The railway administration has warned passengers that ticket tampering through AI or any digital means is a punishable offence, and strict action will be taken in such cases.
