Eating heavy, fried or sweet food at night can have a negative impact on our sleep, digestion and weight. Many times we unknowingly eat foods like samosa, chips, paranthas, coffee, tea, cake or soda, which instead of giving rest to the body, make it more active. Due to this, sleep gets disrupted, there is heaviness in the stomach and gradually the weight also starts increasing.
Good sleep is as important for our body as eating right. But many times we eat such foods at night which spoil our sleep. Not only does one lose sleep, but problems like lethargy, flatulence, acidity and weight gain also increase in the body. If you want to sleep on time every day and maintain a healthy lifestyle, then it is very important to know what things should be kept away from at night. Consuming certain things, especially just before sleeping, can be heavy on the digestive system, due to which the body keeps fighting from within the whole night and there is difficulty in sleeping.
One should not eat samosa, chips, parantha, pakoda or oily food with gravy at night. These foods take a lot of time to digest and make you feel heavy on the stomach. When the stomach remains busy digesting food for a long time, the mind is unable to relax, which leads to disrupted sleep. Along with this, fatty foods increase insulin levels at night, due to which fat starts getting stored in the body and weight starts increasing gradually.
Coffee and Tea – Caffeine is the biggest enemy of sleep. Many people drink tea or coffee while working at night, but this habit completely spoils sleep. Caffeine keeps the mind active and does not allow the body to relax. The effect of caffeine persists even 5–6 hours before sleeping. Due to this, not only sleep is reduced, but metabolism also gets disturbed and weight starts increasing rapidly. If you want to drink something at night then take only hot water or herbal tea.

Sweets and Desserts – Eating sugar-laden desserts like cakes, cookies, ice cream or sweets increases the blood sugar level instantly, which gives an instant energy boost at night. This energy does not allow your body to sleep and the brain remains active again and again. After this, if the sugar level suddenly falls, problems like restlessness, hunger and dizziness may occur. Sweet foods are considered to be one of the biggest reasons for weight gain at night.
Spicy food- Do not eat too spicy food like chicken curry, spicy street food, spicy noodles or chilli snacks before sleeping. Spices increase acidity in the stomach, which causes burning sensation, sour belching and heaviness in the chest. In such a situation, it becomes very difficult to lie down and sleep keeps getting interrupted from time to time. People who are already suffering from acidity or gas problem should completely avoid spicy food at night.
Soda, packaged juice and cold drinks – These drinks contain high sugar, caffeine and gas, which not only spoils sleep but also increases bloating and gas in the stomach. Cold drinks disturb the insulin level of the body, due to which fat starts accumulating rapidly. Soda drinks slow down the digestive system at night, causing a feeling of fullness or discomfort. Eat light and easily digestible food 2 hours before sleeping. Hot milk, light porridge, soup or fruits can be eaten at night. This will improve your sleep and your weight will also remain under control.
