A team of Canadian divers went to the depths of Lake Ontario, where they noticed a mysterious ‘thing’. When they went near it, they came to know that it was a completely preserved 200-year-old shipwreck, which shocked them.
There are many such mysteries around the world which are still unresolved. Nobody knows about them. Many of these things are present around us, but no one knows about them. One such mysterious thing was recently revealed when divers took a dive in Canada’s Ontario Lake. He saw a mysterious thing in the depths of the lake, when he went near it he was shocked. This mysterious thing was nothing but the wreck of a 200 year old ship. The surprising thing was that despite being in water for so many years, this debris was completely safe and in perfect condition. The unusual discovery proved to be a life-changing experience for a team of divers, who later reported that the sight was so shocking that they had to take a few moments to “compose themselves” even underwater.
Let us tell you that when this Canadian team was on a standard search of the lake, they saw this incredible scene. The discovery provides a rare glimpse into an era of 19th century shipbuilding history that had never been seen before. After investigation, it is believed that this strange structure dates back to the 1800s, which is estimated from the type of rope used to tie the ship. However, some features of this ship surprised the team, as they found that some important parts like the centerboard and the wheel on the rear deck were missing. It is from these peculiarities that archaeologists guessed that it was very old. Archaeologist James Connolly said that these features immediately show that this huge ship belongs to the first half of the 19th century.
Talking about this discovery, lead diver Heison Chak, who has been diving for 20 years, said that his heart rate had increased even while he was underwater. When they were able to calm themselves, they noticed that both masts of the ship were still standing, which is rare for such an old structure. According to Heeson, during such long periods of time a ship’s masts often fall or are damaged by anchors from other ships or by divers, but that was not the case with this one. Heeson further said that this is the first wreck he has seen in which the topmast is still attached. Let us tell you that the topmast is located above the main mast and supports the sail. “I have never seen a topmast on any of the wrecks I have seen in Ontario or the St. Lawrence River,” he said.
The ship is a rarely preserved example of the shipbuilding skills of its era. The local university first spotted the “unidentified object” during a fiber-optic cable survey in 2017, although they believed it to be the wreck of the 1884 Rapid City ship. At present, the name and identity of this ship has not been fully confirmed yet. Teams of divers and archaeologists are now carrying out further surveys and tests to solve this historical mystery. The reason for this ship being completely safe is probably attributed to the cold water and low oxygen environment of the lake, which protected the wood from corrosion. This discovery is not only a major milestone for Canada’s maritime history, but it may also open the door to many more unsolved mysteries hidden beneath the Great Lakes.
