sava kos Parikrama: As soon as the sacred sava kos parikrama of Ramkot started on the auspicious time on Monday evening in Ayodhya, the entire city of Ram resonated with the enthusiasm of devotion. Hundreds of devotees followed this ancient tradition by visiting more than 1100 temples. This parikrama, believed to be started by Hanuman ji, still fills the devotees with spiritual energy and deep devotion.
Ayodhya: As soon as the 1.25 mile circumambulation started in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram, the entire city was immersed in devotion. Devotees from all over the country participated with enthusiasm and faith in this parikrama, which started at the auspicious time of 4:21 pm on Monday evening. This ancient parikrama of Ramkot is considered to be a vibrant celebration of spiritual importance and devotional tradition.
Parikrama started at auspicious time
On Monday, at exactly 4:21 pm, the 1.25 kos parikrama of Ramkot was formally started at the auspicious time fixed by Swami Avimukteshwaranand Ji Maharaj. Dharam Sena led the parikrama. As soon as the parikrama started, the entire Ayodhya echoed with the chants of “Jai Shri Ram”. The enthusiasm of the devotees was palpable.
Hundreds of devotees made a religious journey of 1.25 kilometer distance.
Hundreds of devotees from different places of the city participated in the parikrama. The radius of the parikrama is approximately one and a quarter kos, which is considered extremely auspicious and virtuous according to religious beliefs. It is said that after Lord Shri Ram’s Golak Gaman, Hanuman ji did the same circumambulation of Ramkot for devotion and peace of mind. Even today millions of Ram devotees follow the same tradition with devotion.
Visit more than 1100 temples
This parikrama is completed with a visit to more than 1100 major temples. These include Hanumangarhi, Kanak Bhawan, Dashrath Mahal, Ram Janmabhoomi and other ancient places associated with Ramkot. Devotees sang bhajan-kirtan and Ram Naam Sankirtan while circumambulating the temples located around the banks of Saryu and across the city.
History related to 1903, now tradition has awakened again
According to Santosh Dubey, in the year 1903, the British rule had stopped this parikrama citing security reasons. This sacred tradition remained interrupted for a long time. But in the past years, due to the enthusiasm of the devotees and the initiative of the local administration, this parikrama is being organized again regularly.

Ayodhya scholar Pawan Das Shastri says that doing parikrama awakens devotion in the mind and in religious scriptures it has also been said to give salvation. Devotees from all over the country participated in this huge parikrama organized on the great festival of Moksha Dayini Ekadashi and experienced the divine energy of Ayodhya. Devotees said that the 1.25 Kos Parikrama is not just a religious ritual, but a living celebration of devotion towards Shri Ram and Indian culture and tradition.
