Business idea: Even if milk production decreases or stops, cows can still provide profits to farmers. According to animal scientists, farmers can earn two and a half to three lakh rupees every month by making vermicompost from cow dung. Due to low cost, raw material available throughout the year and increasing demand, this business is becoming a profitable deal for farmers.
Begusarai: Farmers involved in farming and animal husbandry generally consider milk production as the main source of income. But the truth is that milk production depends on the weather, health and age of the animal. Sometimes the milk production reduces or even stops completely. In such a situation, farmers face income crisis. But do you know that cow dung, which is often considered useless, can become a source of earning millions for farmers. Let’s understand the business idea.
Animal scientist Dr. Rampal told Local 18 that the availability of cow dung remains almost the same throughout the year. Putting cow dung directly in the fields can damage the soil, while the price of organic fertilizer is continuously increasing in the market. In such a situation, farmers can get double benefit by making vermicompost from cow dung. They use it in their own farming and also sell it in the market.
Understand business idea
According to agricultural experts, if 100 farmers are connected to this model and vermi compost is prepared from the cow dung available with them, then this unit can be started at an initial cost of around Rs 1 lakh. The entire system can be operated easily by employing four to five laborers and one laborer can be easily bought for Rs. 10,000, which means Rs. 40,000 can be spent on one laborer. Vermi compost prepared from 100 cows can do a business of up to Rs 3 lakh annually.
Dr. Vikas Kumar, who has learned the business idea, says that if a person does this work by forming a group of farmers or in the FPO model, then it is possible to earn two and a half to three lakh rupees every month. The demand for vermi compost is so high that its supply in the market is not being met. With the increase in organic farming, its demand will increase further in the future.
Low cost and year-round operation
In rural areas, cow dung is available at a very cheap price or even for free. In such a situation, the cost of raw material is almost negligible. The biggest thing is that this business is environment friendly and can also be linked to the organic farming schemes of the government. With low cost, year-round business and increasing demand, this business of vermicompost from cow dung is becoming a strong and sustainable source of income for farmers.
