Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant is a resident of Petwad village in Hisar district. Justice Surya Kant has become the first person from Haryana to reach this post. According to the information, Chief Justice Surya Kant’s elder brother Master Rishikant lives in the village. He told that Suryakant had come to the village just a day before Diwali. Elder brother Rishikant told that he has been living in a joint family since the beginning. Father and two uncles all lived together. Father did not believe in caste discrimination. His great grandfather was a teacher. Father was also a Sanskrit teacher. Therefore, the four brothers were named Rishikant, Shivkant, Devkant and Suryakant, so that they could have a distinct identity in the society.
Brother Rishikant told that everyone in the family was a teacher, but Surya Kant went away from everyone else and studied law. He completed his studies till 10th from the village government school and graduation from the government college of Hisar.

Family runs NGO, does not accept donations
The family has an NGO named Pandit Ram Prasad Atmaram Charitable Trust. This NGO does not take donations from anyone. Suryakant honors the toppers of class 10th and 12th in the boys and girls schools of the village every year. Even after becoming Chief Justice, he will come to the village and participate in this program. Suryakant’s brother told that his parents are not alive today, if they were alive today then there would be no limit to his happiness. Surya Kant’s sister-in-law Rajbala said that she knows no bounds of happiness and is very happy with his achievement. What did Chief Justice Surya Kant do?
Chief Justice Surya Kant graduated from Government PG College, Hisar in 1981 and then studied Law (LLB) from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak in 1984. After this he started practicing law in Hisar District Court. However, he later went to practice law in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh in 1985. On July 7, 2000, he was made the Advocate General of Haryana and was the youngest lawyer to hold this post. Later on January 9, 2004, Chief Justice Surya Kant became the permanent judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court. At the same time, on October 5, 2018, he was also appointed the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.
