Hidden Camera Scandal: There was a stir after a hidden camera was found in the bathroom of the women’s hostel of Tata Electronics located in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. After this incident, women employees protested. Meanwhile, the police took immediate action and arrested the accused female employee and her boyfriend.

Tata Electronics spokesperson issued a statement saying that the safety and privacy of employees is our top priority. As soon as we got information about this incident, we immediately informed the police and cooperated fully in the investigation. The company further said that it is committed to ensuring a safe and respectful work environment for all employees and is taking such incidents very seriously.
What is the whole matter?
According to the police, there is a hostel named ‘Vidiyaal Residency’ for the women employees working in the Nagamangalam unit of Tata Electronics Private Limited. It was here that a hidden camera was installed in the bathroom. The incident came to light when some women noticed a suspicious device inside the bathroom. After this, hundreds of women employees protested and demanded increased security.
Police said that the name of the accused woman is Neelu Kumari Gupta (22 years), who is a resident of Odisha and used to work in the company. She had installed this camera on the request of her boyfriend Santosh (25 years). Santosh has been arrested from Bengaluru. Investigation revealed that this camera was installed on November 2 in the bathroom of the room where women from northern states lived.

After the incident, women employees protested heavily. Hosur Additional District Magistrate Aakriti Sethi and Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai reached the spot. He assured the employees of increased security and transparency in the investigation. Women police personnel have been deployed in the hostel to ensure that no secret cameras have been installed anywhere else.
It is an 11 storey complex consisting of 8 blocks. More than 6,000 women employees stay here. Police said that the investigation is still going on. It is being ascertained from the accused woman and her companion as to where the recording from the camera was being sent, and whether cameras were installed at any other place also. This incident has come to light at a time when questions are being raised regarding the safety of women in corporate workplaces and hostels across the country. Tata Electronics has said that it is re-reviewing the security policies so that such incidents do not recur.
