Raipur. Chhattisgarh MP Brijmohan Aggarwal has written a letter to Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, objecting to the recent increase in the guideline rates announced by the state government. The MP has termed this increase as heavy for the public and anti-people and has demanded immediate adjournment.
MP Brijmohan Aggarwal says that respect for public sentiments is most important in democracy. He said that no additional financial burden should be imposed on the public. With this in mind, he has clearly requested in the letter to the Chief Minister that the increase in the guideline rates from 100 to 800 percent should be stopped with immediate effect and it should be reconsidered. The MP wrote in the letter that such an increase directly affects the pockets of the general public and can cause dissatisfaction among the people. He said that the government should ensure that decisions are in line with public interest and economic stability of the society.
What is the guideline rate?
Guideline rate, sometimes called “stamp duty or market rate”, is the minimum price set by the government for buying or selling any property (land or house). Its main objective is to ensure that the property deal is done according to the actual value and the government gets appropriate revenue. If a property is sold at a lower rate than this, the government can impose additional tax. The increase in guideline rates means that now more tax or stamp duty will be charged on the purchase and sale of land or house. MP Aggarwal says that currently this increase has been made from 100 to 800 percent, which can become a huge financial burden for the common citizen and small businessmen. He said that the government must take public opinion before taking such decisions and protect their interests.
Through this letter, MP Brijmohan also gave the message that he will always be active to protect the rights and economic interests of the public. He urged the Chief Minister that the increase in guideline rates be postponed with immediate effect and a balanced, equitable and public welfare decision be taken. The discussion on this issue is likely to intensify at both political and social levels, because buying and selling of property and tax increase directly affects the public.
