Sometimes Butki Nag along with her husband Jaisingh Nag used to earn their living by working as laborers in the fields of others. Life was difficult due to low income and limited resources. But he did not give up and was determined to become self-reliant.
In the year 2020, Butki Nag joined the Bihan scheme of the National Rural Livelihood Mission and formed ‘Sita Mata Women Self-Help Group’. The group received revolving fund of Rs 15 thousand and community investment fund of Rs 60 thousand. With this amount he laid the new foundation of his farming.
Butki Nag started cultivating paddy, maize and vegetables in his three acres of land in Taraiguda Neganar village. Paddy is growing in one and a half acre, maize in one acre and vegetables like bitter gourd, beans and ridge gourd are growing in half an acre. Now his farm is setting an example of self-reliance.
Along with farming, Butki Nag also started poultry and goat rearing. He built a poultry shed in the vacant land and constructed a goat shed to create a source of additional income from animal husbandry. Due to this, their financial position has become stronger than before.
Butki Nag says that Bihaan Yojana not only gave us money but also taught us how to change our lives. Today she is not only a self-reliant farmer but is also an inspiration for other women of her village. The Integrated Farming System project in its area has freed hundreds of women from the chains of poverty and shown them the path to self-reliance.
