If you think that theft like the movie ‘Dhoom’ or ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ is just a story for the screen, then be prepared to be surprised. There are many such real incidents recorded in history, when even the most secure museums of the world appeared helpless before the cunningness of thieves.
You might have seen high-tech thefts like ‘Dhoom’ in films, but such real incidents have also happened in the world which surprised the police and security personnel, the latest case is of Louvre Museum, where precious gems and jewels of the Napoleonic era were stolen.
In October 2025, a major theft took place in the Louvre Museum, one of the famous museums located in Paris, the capital of France. 2 fake laborers stole 8 treasures of the Napoleonic era in just 7 minutes. The cost of this theft was estimated to be around $102 million (Rs 850 crore).
There have been many museum robberies in history which are even more thrilling than Bollywood’s ‘Dhoom’. Most famously, in the year 1911, an Italian worker Vincenzo Pereggia stole the Mona Lisa painting and kept it hidden for 2 years, whose value today is estimated at around 1 billion dollars.
