UP Public Service Commission cleared the confusion
Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission has clarified that 15 times the number of candidates are being successful in the State/Superior Subordinate Services Examination (PCS) and other preliminary examinations as compared to the number of posts for the main examination. This statement of the Commission came after the results of UPPSC Prelims Exam 2025. In fact, the Commission was facing allegations that the selection ratio had been reduced from 15 times to 12 times. The Commission stressed that it is fully following the rules and the rule of 15 times selection is fully implemented.
Rules apply to these exams
UPPSC’s 15 times selection rule is not limited to PCS exam only, but also applies to many other examinations of the commission. These examinations include PCSJ (Judicial Service), Sub-Registrar, District Audit Officer and ACF/RFO (Assistant Conservator of Forest/Area Forest Officer) recruitment examinations. The Commission ensured that only 15 times the number of candidates compared to the number of posts will be selected for the main examination of all these recruitments. This makes it a uniform and transparent standard.
How are the candidates selected?
Throwing light on the selection process, Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission said that in the preliminary examination of government jobs, candidates are selected only on the basis of merit. Candidates are selected 15 times as per merit order for all recruitments. However, the Commission also clarified that the merit or cutoff of the candidates is not released immediately after the preliminary examination. These candidates are selected on the order of merit.
When will the cutoff and answer key be released?
Regarding the policy of releasing cutoff marks, merit list and final answer key of any examination, UPPSC said that it follows the methodology of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Under this policy, the preliminary exam marks, cut-off and final answer key are not released until the final result of the recruitment process is declared. All these details will be uploaded on the official website of the Commission only after the release of the final results.
Legal issues and future process
Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission informed that the current issue related to total marks, cutoff and release of final answer key is pending in Allahabad High Court. UPPSC has made it clear that it will wait for the court order. The further process and timetable for releasing or not releasing these details will be decided only after the instructions given by the court. Candidates have been advised to keep checking the official information on the website of the Commission.
