New Delhi: Indian Army is going to increase its strength manifold. After ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Army has decided to further strengthen its long range artillery. Under this, the Army has prepared a proposal to include Pinak rocket with a range of 120 kilometers in its fleet. This project is worth about Rs 2500 crore. If this proposal is passed then enemy positions can now be destroyed from a distance of 120 kilometers. Defense officials say that these rockets will be developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The special thing is that its trials are going to start very soon.
2500 crore mega project, how will DRDO prepare the material of death?
According to defense sources, the Army has sought approval for this project. The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) may take a decision on this very soon. The cost of this project has been estimated at Rs 2500 crore. DRDO will develop this guided rocket. First its design and prototype will be ready. After this its trials will be conducted. After the trial is successful, partners will be selected for its production. This selection will be through a bidding process. Under the leadership of Rajnath Singh, the Defense Ministry is continuously promoting indigenous weapons. Pinak System is a great example of this campaign.
Will the old launcher cause new destruction? How did the firepower reach 120 kilometers directly from 40?
- The biggest feature of this new project is its technical upgradation. Till now the rockets of Pinak system used to hit up to 40 kilometers. After this came its advanced version which could attack at a distance of more than 75 kilometers. But now the army wants a guided rocket with a range of 120 km.
- Officials said that these new rockets can be fired from the same launcher which is currently being used. This means that the army will not need to buy or replace new launchers. Only with the old system can attacks be made over longer distances. This is a huge advantage in terms of logistics and expenses. The Army is focusing on further strengthening its existing Pinak regiments.
- After the recent ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Army has realized the need for long-range precision weapons. Pinak Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher System (MLRS) is known for its speed and accuracy. This increases the capability of the army manifold in modern warfare.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has expressed full confidence in this system. He has made it clear that the Army is fully supporting this missile system. He indicated that once the long-range version of Pinak is ready, the Army may abandon plans for other alternative or foreign weapons. This is a big statement towards indigenization. DRDO is already in the advanced stage of developing the 120 km version. Its first test is expected in the next financial year.
Not just the rocket, the gunpowder will also be special! What did the Army get in the deal worth Rs 10,000 crore?
The Army is not only increasing the range of the rocket but is also making its ammunition more lethal. Earlier this year, the Defense Ministry had signed big contracts worth Rs 10,147 crore. This deal was made with Economic Explosives Limited (EEL) and Munitions India Limited (MIL).
Under this, the army will get ‘Area Denial Munition’ (ADM) and High Explosive Pre-Fragmented Rockets. Area denial munition is one which prevents the enemy from entering a particular area. Apart from this, an agreement has also been signed with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to upgrade Shakti Software. This software makes the artillery system more accurate.
