A man has been arrested over the huge pile of fly waste dumped in a field in Oxfordshire.
The Environment Agency (EA) said a 39-year-old man from the Guildford area had been arrested in connection with the pile of rubbish in a field near Kidlington.
The EA previously declared a critical incident over the fly tip.
The agency has said it is carrying out a major investigation and is coordinating with Oxfordshire County Council, Thames Valley Police and National Highways.
Anna Burns, Environment Agency area director for Thames, said: “The appalling illegal waste dumping in Kidlington has rightly sparked outrage over the potential consequences for the community and the environment.
“We have been working day and night with the South East Regional Organized Crime Unit to bring the perpetrators to justice and make them pay for this crime.
“Our investigative efforts have led to an arrest today, which will be the first step in bringing justice to the residents and punishing those responsible.”
