Washington: India’s investigating agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has recently taken major action and busted an illegal call center that was trying to tarnish the name of India. American citizens were being targeted through these call centres. For this mission, CBI worked in collaboration with law enforcement agencies of America and made rapid arrests. What were these fraudsters doing?
The gang associated with this illegal call center is accused of looting money from American citizens through cyber fraud. CBI conducted this operation on the basis of intelligence inputs collected by different agencies. Under this operation, Vikas Kumar Nimar, a key operator and mastermind of an international cyber crime network, has been arrested.
How did CBI arrest the gang?
Vikas was running a fake call center for the last several years, in which some people were given laptops and trained to commit fraud. These people used to target American citizens by stealing data and defrauding them of money. After the arrest, CBI also raided Vikas’s house and recovered many important evidence. During the investigation of a case registered in September 2024, 4 illegal call centers were caught in raids in Pune, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
