In Deeg village of Faridabad, farmer Kunwar Pal has attracted everyone’s attention by cultivating blue potatoes of Neelkanth variety. This special crop grown in 2 acres is considered better in both taste and health. This potato, which is ready in 100-110 days, was sold for up to Rs 500 per bag last year, which increased the expectations of the farmers.
Faridabad: These days, there is a discussion about a special farming in Deeg village of Faridabad, which has attracted the attention of both farmers and consumers. The farmers here are now growing a potato crop which is commonly known as blue potato and its variety is called Neelkanth. This potato may look a little different in colour, but in terms of taste and qualities, it is rapidly increasing people’s preferences. It is believed that this potato is also beneficial for diabetic patients, hence its demand is gradually increasing.

Its cultivation is not easy
Kunwar Pal says that cultivating Neelkanth potato is not an easy task. For this, the field has to be plowed 8 to 10 times so that the soil becomes crumbly. Two bags of DAP and one bag of potash have to be applied in one acre of field. After this it is sown by machine. The quantity of seeds is also more than that of normal potatoes, about 15 quintals of seeds are required in one acre. Talking about production, about 250 bags of potatoes are produced in one acre and each bag contains 50 kg of potatoes.
