How to protect crop from Cold waves: This time the cold in Bastar has given a big challenge to farming. Due to the cold wave, germination is decreasing in the fields, frost is forming on the leaves and the growth of many vegetables has stopped. Agricultural expert Khulay Joshi says that farmers need to immediately adopt measures like mulching, fumigation, proper irrigation and polyhouse cultivation, so that the temperature can be controlled and crops can be saved.
Bastar. It is very cold in Bastar. Cold wave causes a lot of damage to crops during winter. Cold wave affects the germination of sown crops, due to which farmers have to face losses. Farmers suffer huge losses due to this. It is most important to protect crops from cold wave. So that crops can be produced. During winter season, farmers plant many crops like watermelon, peas, brinjal. Keeping the temperature right in these crops is the biggest challenge for the farmers. Farmers have to face huge problems due to cold wave.
Local 18 team talked to Khulay Joshi, horticulture expert of the College of Horticulture, on the topic of protecting crops from cold wave. Khulay Joshi says that cold wave is a big blow of the weather. Just as high temperature in summer damages crops, similarly cold wave damages crops in winter.
Keep these things in mind
Cold wave affects the germination of crops. Only when the seeds are sown will they germinate and yield a harvest. Germination ability decreases in low temperatures. For germination, along with moisture, temperature is also required. If the temperature is low, germination will not occur, which will result in a decline in crop production. In cold waves, frost accumulates on the leaves, due to which photosynthesis does not take place in the leaves and the growth of plants stops.
If too much fog falls, flowers and leaves are also affected. To protect against cold wave, mulching should be done, fumigation should be done especially, different types of medicines should be sprayed. If farmers are planting capsicum then they can use protective cultivation i.e. polyhouse. At this time, cabbage, chilli and tomatoes suffer a lot of damage. Temperature can also be controlled by proper management of irrigation. To protect against strong winds, guard crops can be planted around the fields or big trees can be planted.
