Greater Noida: A worrying case has come to light in the primary school located in Junpat village, which has raised serious questions regarding the functioning of the school administration and the safety of the children. In a video that has gone viral on social media, small school children can be seen lifting bricks, carrying goods and doing work like labour. This video is said to have been made by a youth from the village itself, after which it has spread a lot of anger in the area.
Local people say that despite peons being deployed in the school, children are employed in cleaning, carrying goods and other labor work. According to the villagers, this is not the first time. It is often seen that children are made to do such work in schools, but now after the video has surfaced, the whole matter has come to light. Villagers say that this not only hinders the education of children, but it also plays with their physical and mental health.
Child labor is completely banned
There is huge anger among the parents after the video surfaced. They allege that the school administration and the principal have completely ignored their responsibilities and violated the rights of the children. Under the Child Rights Protection Act, Right to Education Act (RTE) and school safety standards, employing children as labor is completely prohibited in any school. Despite this, doing such illegal work shows administrative negligence.
The villagers have demanded from the district administration and the Basic Education Department that strict and immediate action should be taken against the responsible employees and school administration seen in the video. Besides, a demand has also been raised to ensure a safe, clean and education-centric environment for children.
Checking the authenticity of viral video
When the Basic Education Officer (BSA) was talked to on this entire issue, he said that till now no such complaint has come to his notice. However, he assured that the authenticity of the viral video will be investigated and if guilty employees are found, strict action will be taken against them. BSA said, ‘Any kind of playing with the future of children will not be tolerated at all’.
