China 9-9-6 Working Formula: Two years ago, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy had given a statement regarding the working hours of Indians, after which he was criticized a lot. He had said that Indians should work 70 hours a week to contribute to the progress of the country. Now once again he has supported his old statement and for this has given the example of neighboring country China.
In a recent interview, he cited China’s work culture ‘9-9-6 model’ and said that the youth need to work for a long time to move India forward.
What is China’s 9-9-6 model?
The ‘9-9-6 work rule’ has been common in many Chinese tech companies, under which employees are expected to work from 9 am to 9 pm, six days a week. That means a total of 72 hours of work a week. This model became very popular in companies like Alibaba and Huawei.
However, it has also been heavily criticized due to lack of work-life balance and increasing stress. Later in the year 2021, the Supreme Court of China declared the 9-9-6 model illegal, although according to reports, it is still applicable in many places.
Narayana Murthy has been criticized
While talking to a private TV channel, Narayan Murthy said that India’s economic growth rate is 6.5 percent, which is fine, but China’s economy is almost six times bigger than India’s. In such a situation, active participation of all sections of the society is necessary.
He also said that the youth should focus on their career before worrying about work-life balance. Earlier in the year 2023 also, he had advocated working for 70 hours for nation building and now he has repeated the same statement and given the example of China.
