Freezing increases the risk of bursting of pipes or closure of the tap of the tank, therefore, it is very important to maintain normal temperature of the water in the tank during the cold season so that all the household work continues smoothly.
The easiest way to protect the tank water from freezing in winter is to use a thermal insulation set or foam cover. These covers prevent fog, frost and cold air from reaching the tank. Due to this, the temperature of water remains normal and household work is not affected.

If the tank is kept in the open then it is beneficial to paint it black. The black color absorbs the sun’s heat and heats the water faster even in mild sunlight. The paint should be waterproof and durable so that its effect lasts for a long time.
In extreme cold, the tank can be covered with old mattresses. This prevents cold air from reaching the tank. Apart from this, it is also beneficial to cover the tank by making a wooden or iron box. This method protects the tank from cold winds and maintains the water at normal temperature.
If it is very cold then you can use a heater for the water in the tank. This is the easiest and most effective solution to maintain normal temperature of tank water. Along with this, the double layer tank is more effective in maintaining normal temperature of water in winter and prevents the problem of freezing to a great extent.
The water tank should be kept at a place where it receives maximum sunlight during the day. The natural heat of the sun maintains the normal temperature of the water and reduces the effect of cold wind.
