Agartala. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said the Indian government is closely monitoring the emerging situation in Bangladesh and is fully prepared to deal with any possible challenge. The Chief Minister said that after the ouster of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power, many worrying and destructive incidents have come to light in the neighboring country.
Responding to the current situation, CM Saha said that the Tripura government is regularly sending detailed reports of all the developments related to the situation arising across the border to the Central Government. “Notorious terrorists, criminals and people involved in various cases have been released from the jails of Bangladesh,” the CM said during a government program.
He said that India and its armed forces are always ready to deal with every situation. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fully aware of the developments taking place in Bangladesh and is continuously monitoring the situation.
CM Saha said, “There has been significant progress in our drone surveillance systems. The S-400 mobile long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system has already proven its capabilities.” He added that security arrangements at the border are strong and all necessary measures have been taken.
He also said that after the outbreak of violence in Bangladesh in June–July 2024, especially after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on 5 August 2024, paramilitary forces have increased vigil along the international border and border dominance has been further tightened.
It is noteworthy that Tripura has an 856 km long border with Bangladesh and due to the state being surrounded by the neighboring country on three sides, it remains extremely sensitive to developments across the border.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, after the death of Sharif Usman Hadi, the spokesperson of the fundamentalist organization ‘Inquilab Manch’, due to gunshot on December 18, several incidents of violence have come to light in various cities of Bangladesh. Hadi was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Singapore.
Earlier on December 17, the Ministry of External Affairs had summoned Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India, Riyaz Hamidullah, and informed him about New Delhi’s serious concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Bangladesh. There are reports of a sharp increase in violence and worsening of the law and order situation in Bangladesh under the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus.
