Yoga for Digestion: In winter, due to cold air, drinking less water and habit of eating heavy food, problems related to indigestion, constipation and vata become common. To get relief from these problems, doing these four yogasanas can prove to be very beneficial for you.
Cold and cough are common problems in winter, apart from this many people also suffer from digestive disorders. Due to cold air, drinking less water and habit of eating heavy food, problems related to indigestion, constipation and gout become common.
In such a situation, the Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India advises to include four simple yoga asanas in the daily routine to keep the digestive system strong. These asanas can be done easily at home and with 10-15 minutes of practice daily, digestion remains balanced.
Yoga for healthy digestion
These four yogasanas include Vajrasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana, Pawan Muktasana and Marjari Asana. These asanas strengthen the abdominal muscles, help in removing gas and balance Vata dosha.
Vajrasana- This is the only asana which can be done immediately after meals. For this, sit on your knees, keep your heels below your buttocks and hands on your knees. It speeds up digestion, relieves indigestion and gives relief from constipation.
Ardha Matsyendrasana- This asana, done while sitting, makes the spine flexible and massages the abdominal organs. For this, bend one leg and place it on top of the other and turn in the opposite direction. It gives special benefits in the problem of gas, constipation and indigestion.
Pawan Muktasana- To practice this asana, lie down on your back and bring both your knees to your chest and apply pressure while exhaling. This is a gas releasing asana, which is especially beneficial in the problem of flatulence and also gives instant relief in constipation.
Marjorie Asan- This is also called cat-cow pose. During its practice, in the quadruped posture, raise the back while inhaling (Cat) and bend down while exhaling (Cow). It activates the stomach muscles, improves digestion and helps balance Vata.
