If you don’t clean it for weeks, first of all it will emit a strong smell. After this, itching, redness and sometimes waxy or paste-like dirt may come out. This can also cause infection. Dr. Rashmi Sharma further explained that in severe cases, this accumulated debris can harden and form a naval stone or omphalolith, which can be painful and may require a visit to the doctor to remove it. Additionally, moist environments can also promote the growth of bacteria or yeast, which can sometimes lead to infection.

- Dry completely: Due to remaining moisture, the chances of growth of yeast increases. For this, pat dry gently with a towel or let it dry in air.
- Consult a doctor:If you have not cleaned for a long time then deep cleaning is required. According to the doctor, for this, a cotton swab can be soaked in lukewarm water or a little mild soap and gently cleaned inside the navel.
