1. Ignoring the 100 ml rule
The most common mistake travelers make is that they often forget the 100ml limit. As per the safety rules of international and domestic flights, the bottle of any liquid (such as perfume, shampoo, or lotion) that you carry in your hand bag should not exceed 100 ml. Even if the bottle is big and contains less liquid, the security officials do not allow it.

2. Keep in mind the size of the bottle, not the liquid.
Often people think that if only 50ml of lotion is left in a 200ml bottle, it can be taken away. This is wrong. Safety regulations look at the capacity of the container, not the amount of liquid inside it. Always use small travel-sized containers.

3. Not using transparent bags
To facilitate security checks, all liquid bottles should be placed in a clear, resealable plastic bag. Indian travelers often put these directly in different pockets of the bag, due to which the entire bag has to be opened during security check and time is wasted.

4. Not keeping doctor’s prescription for medicines
If you are carrying any essential liquid medicine or baby food in quantity more than 100ml, then you must have a doctor’s prescription. But if you do not have the prescription, then you will not be able to take such medicines during the security check.

5. Not recognizing the category of ‘liquid’ correctly
Most people consider only water or oil as liquids. But according to safety rules, jam, honey, chutney, ghee, cream, and deodorant spray also fall in this category. These things should also be kept within the limit of 100ml or should be put in the check-in bag.

6. Tampering with the packaging of duty-free purchases
Alcohol or perfumes purchased from airport duty-free stores are delivered in a special ‘sealed’ bag (STEB). Passengers often open it in excitement even before boarding the plane. If you have a connecting flight, the opened bag may be confiscated at the next security check.

7. Removing liquid from the bag at the last moment
Not taking out the packet containing liquids before putting the bag in the security tray is a big mistake. When liquid is seen in the scanner, the bag is stopped for re-check. This is a waste of time. It would be wise to take out your liquid pouch beforehand and keep it separately in the tray.
