Roasted jeera benefits: Cumin, an important spice of Indian kitchen, is not only a taste enhancer but also a real treasure of health. Ayurvedacharya says that roasted cumin is twice as beneficial as raw cumin. It is an Ayurvedic protector of digestion, blood, weight and hormone balance, provided it is consumed properly. In Ayurveda, cumin has been described as ‘Deepaniya’ i.e. it increases digestive fire and removes vata-phlegm. Charak Samhita says – “Jeerakam Deepnam Shrestham” i.e. it is the best digester. If taken properly, it proves beneficial in everything from stomach problems to weight control and blood sugar.
Cumin contains elements like cuminaldehyde, thymol, terpene along with iron, magnesium and rich antioxidants. These improve digestion, reduce gas and bloating, and also keep the metabolism balanced. Modern research also considers cumin useful in controlling blood sugar and cholesterol.
