While people are still stuck between curiosity and fear regarding driverless cars, a woman experienced such a thing in this smart vehicle that anyone would be surprised to hear. In San Francisco, a woman called a driverless Waymo taxi to reach the hospital, but before reaching the hospital, something happened that shocked everyone.
According to reports, the woman boarded Waymo’s self-driving taxi to go to the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center (UCSF) at night. The journey started, but within a few minutes her labor pain intensified. The taxi kept moving rapidly towards the hospital, but nature’s decision was different and the woman gave birth to a child in the backseat of the car.
Waymo team saw some strange things happening inside the car
According to The San Francisco Standard, the Waymo company said that their remote team sensed some strange activities happening inside the car. Immediately the support team called the woman and also contacted the emergency service. Nevertheless, this robotaxi turned out to be so fast that it took the mother and child safely to the hospital after the birth of the child. As soon as they reached the hospital, both of them were taken inside safely. After that, Waymo immediately removed the car from service so that it could be cleaned. Hospital officials also confirmed that both the child and the mother are now healthy. Waymo said that this is not the first time that a child has been born in their driverless taxi. Earlier, a similar case had come to light in Phoenix also. Although this is considered a very rare incident.
Growing network of driverless taxis in America
Driverless cars have become common in many American cities like San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Phoenix. People are using these cars for both curiosity and convenience reasons. But with change there are also controversies associated with it. According to The San Francisco Standard, a Waymo car recently took a wrong U-turn, sparking online debate, in San Francisco, celebrity pet cat Kit Kat was hit by a driverless car, and in Arizona, a man’s Waymo car kept turning around in circles and couldn’t make it to the airport.
