Belagavi (Karnataka). Congress MLA in Karnataka Iqbal Hussain on Friday claimed that DK Shivakumar will become the Chief Minister after the winter session of the state legislature. Ramnagar MLA Hussain was among the ministers and MLAs who had dinner with Shivkumar late on Thursday night. Hussain told reporters on a question about the dinner, “MLAs from different constituencies have come for the session; it is a rare opportunity for all of us to meet. We meet each other during the session. We had dinner together. What is special about it? Can eating together be called a show of strength?”
When asked whether only people close to Shivakumar were invited to the dinner, he said, all are friends and close to each other. When asked if Shivkumar gave any good news during the dinner, he said, “I am giving good news. He will become the chief minister after the session, he will definitely. What is wrong in that?” MLA Hussain, considered close to Shivkumar, said, “…Shivkumar will get a chance, now he will become the Chief Minister.”
According to Hussain, 50-55 Congress MLAs attended the dinner late on Thursday night. Leaders are calling it an informal dinner meeting, but speculations are rife about this meeting which took place amidst the tussle in the ruling party over the post of Chief Minister. Hussain said that Congress is a disciplined party and no one is above the high command, and the final decision on the issue of the chief minister’s post will be taken by the leadership. The winter session of the Legislature began on December 8 and will conclude on December 19.
