Palamu Famous Jharua Ke Laddu: This traditional sweet made from rice, gram flour and jaggery is especially liked by people in winter. It is called Jharua laddu, it is prepared in Amba town, hence people also fondly call it Amba ki Mithai.

The taste of this sweet is such that hardly any traveler passing by can move forward without buying it. Due to the unique combination of local trend and rural taste, this laddu has become famous far and wide. Even people living in the country and abroad demand it, due to which this Amba sweet has gained international recognition.
Making sweets for 40 years
Rakesh Kumar has been making this sweet for almost 40 years. He says that the specialty of Jharua Laddu is not only its taste but also its long shelf life. Rakesh says that this laddu does not spoil for months, hence people buy it in large quantities and take it home and also send it to their relatives living abroad. It does not suffer any damage even during long journeys, which is why it has become the best selling sweet of the border area.
How to make Jharua Laddu
Preparation of Jharua Laddu is equally easy. It is mainly made from rice and gram flour. First, fine powder is prepared by grinding rice and then gram flour boondi is made. After this, jaggery paag is prepared, which is mixed well in boondi. To enhance the taste and aroma, fennel, coconut and cashew nuts are added to it. Laddu is made by giving this mixture a round shape with hands. Rakesh says that 25 to 30 kg laddus are prepared at a time, which takes about two to two and a half hours.
30 laddu becomes 120
The increasing popularity of laddu can be gauged from its price. Rakesh says that initially this laddu was available at Rs 30 per kg, but due to increase in demand and cost of goods, today its price has reached Rs 100 to Rs 120 per kg. Despite this, people’s enthusiasm and liking has not diminished at all. Local people also call it Jaggery Laddu, but due to the identity of Amba, it is more commonly known as Amba Laddu.
Rakesh further said that this Jharua sweet, which has a combination of taste, trend and purity, remains the identity of Amba even today. Be it a festival, travel or the need to send something abroad, Amba laddus remain people’s favorite sweet on every occasion. They are purchased extensively.
