New Delhi. If you are preparing to celebrate Christmas or New Year outside Delhi and your train is New Delhi station, then you must read this news. Otherwise you will get upset. The redevelopment work of the station will affect Paharganj side. Due to which traffic will increase in Paharganj and Connaught Plateaus areas. The traffic police has issued an advisory and appealed to the passengers coming to the station to use alternative routes till December 31, so that they can reach the station on time.
According to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Propagation of the Railway Ministry, the work of the redevelopment project of New Delhi is being done by the Rail Land Development Authority. The tender for the work has been given in February 2025. The work has started from April 2025 at a cost of about Rs 2,469 crore. Due to this, there will be a possibility of Paharganj side traffic jam. An advisory has been issued to make people aware.
Why will there be jam?
It has been said in the traffic police advisory that redevelopment work of New Delhi Railway Station (Paharganj side) is going on. Due to this, traffic around Gate No. 1 on Chelmsford Road will be affected till December 31. Due to construction and shifting, the space on the road has reduced. Anyway, there is heavy traffic jam here.
Work has started on the estate entry road.
This will be an alternative route
According to the traffic police, passengers coming to New Delhi station should use Ajmeri gate side. This would be the best option. Avoid unnecessary wandering or traffic jams around Gate No. 1 of Paharganj side. The traffic police has advised people to follow this route to catch the train on time, otherwise there may be difficulty in reaching Paharganj at the last moment.
Where will the jam affect?
The jam on Chelmsford Road will also affect Minto Road, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, Bhavabhuti Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg and Deshbandhu Gupta Road. Because of this, a huge crowd of passengers is expected at Ajmeri Gate side. Chelmsford Road may also impact alternative routes to Connaught Place Outer Circle and the station. Keeping this in mind, the traffic staff has been increased in the surrounding areas so that there is no major traffic jam. Besides, an appeal has also been made to the people not to do wrong parking.
