Hazaribagh Jhunni Cro: Jhunni crop is being tested in Hazaribagh’s Agricultural Research and Training Center Demotand, due to which there is enthusiasm among the farmers and it can become a new source of income in future. It can also make farmers rich.
Hazaribagh: Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand is an agricultural district. Here two-thirds of the population of the district is unexpectedly dependent on farming. Demotand, the agricultural research and training center of the district, has become a topic of discussion these days for a particular crop. Actually, for the first time Jhukni crop has been planted as a trial in this centre. Farmers are also coming from far away places to see it. This is a rare crop from one side. Its cultivation is seen only in some areas of India.
Rajesh Kumar, expert gardener of Agricultural Research and Training Center Demotand, said that this is the second time that this crop has been planted here. Earlier, it was grown under temperature and artificial methods in the greenhouse during the summer season, but for the first time it has been grown here in a natural way during the winter season. Its yield is also very good. Here it has been grown on a trial basis in about two acres of land.
Know the weight of this crop
He further said that its scale will be increased further in the coming years and there are plans to install it on a large scale. At present, people are liking it a lot in the market also. It is sold in the market for Rs 20 to Rs 60 per piece. Its yield per crop ranges from about half a kilo to 1 kilo. It is sold by pieces rather than by weight.
8-10 fruits grow in one plant
Jhukni is used both as a fruit and vegetable. Its size is between that of cucumber and pumpkin. At the same time, this crop is mainly seen in three colors, in which yellow, blue and green colored fruits are seen in the plant. Where one plant can easily bear 8 to 10 fruits. The flowers of its plants look like pumpkins. Such people also use it in making salads and vegetables.
People are coming to see the training center
A large number of women are coming to the Agricultural Research and Training Center to see this special crop. Sheela Devi, who came to the training center from Barhi block of the district, said that she had seen such a crop for the first time. If its seeds are available from somewhere, then she will cultivate it in her fields in future and will try to benefit from it at commercial level. It is very tasty due to which it will be in great demand in the market.
Can become a big source of income for farmers
Currently, this crop is in the testing stage, but seeing its increasing demand and better yield, the people of the research center also believe that in the coming time, Jhukni can become a source of new income for the farmers. The team of the training center is also preparing to preserve its seeds and distribute it on a large scale. The enthusiasm of the local farmers is also an indication that in the near future, Jhukni will emerge as the identity of the new crop of Hazaribagh.
