High Speed Train: The Trans-European Transport Network will make train travel faster between major cities of Europe such as Berlin to Copenhagen, Sofia to Athens, Paris to Lisbon and Prague to Rome.
New Delhi. Europe is now preparing for the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), a high-speed network that will change the way we travel across the continent. This network of the European Commission is not limited to just railway tracks. This entire plan is an attempt to connect rail, road, airway and sea ports in an integrated structure. In this the high speed train network is most important. The European Commission is going to connect many countries with such trains which will run at 250 kilometers per hour. This means that these trains will cover the distance of one thousand kilometers in just four hours. The European Commission aims to almost double the speed of trains running between most countries of the continent by 2040.
The Trans-European Transport Network will make train travel faster between major European cities such as Berlin to Copenhagen, Sofia to Athens, Paris to Lisbon and Prague to Rome. Discussions are still going on regarding the cost of this project, but officials say that this network will give passengers a cheaper and more convenient option than flights. That is, while today the cost of flying from one city to another is high, in the future, train travel of the same distance will not only be faster but will also be lighter on the pocket.
7 hours journey will be completed in 4 hours
While today it takes about 7 hours to cover the distance from Berlin to Copenhagen, under this new system this journey will be completed in only 4 hours by 2030. Similarly, the journey from Sofia to Athens, which currently takes 14 hours, will end in 6 hours by 2035. And if you travel from Prague to Rome, this wonderful journey will take only 10 hours.
Through this high-speed rail network, major international routes like Paris to Lisbon (via Madrid) and Warsaw to Tallin (via Riga) will be connected. This means that people of Europe will be able to travel between countries with greater ease and speed than ever before. These trains will not only be fast, but will also prove to be environment friendly and economical.
The environment also benefits
Experts say that this project will be very beneficial for Europe. When people choose trains instead of cars and air travel, there will be a huge reduction in carbon emissions. Thousands of tons of greenhouse gases will be prevented every year, which will help in the fight against climate change.
