Gorakhpur: This year’s Gorakhpur Festival is bringing a big opportunity for local artists. The special thing is that this time the traditional terracotta product of the district is going to be the main attraction in the craft fair. This beautiful craftsmanship made of clay is not only the identity of the district, but now it will be presented on a big stage in front of tourists from across the country.
The festival is scheduled to be held between 11 and 13 January. More than 300 stalls will be set up in this three-day program, which will also include ODOP products from 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. It is believed that this time the demand for terracotta handicrafts will increase, because tourists will be able to buy directly from the artists.
Local artists can apply application process
The application process for setting up a stall in the craft fair has been started. According to the Tourism Department, the last date for submission of applications for local artists was kept as 10th December. By the end of the deadline, about 70 artists had contacted the department with their applications. This number shows how excited the artists are about this program.
Big artists will also be included
With the presence of these artists, the number of people coming to the festival is likely to increase further, which will provide better opportunities to local artisans to sell their products.
Stall allocation and preparations speeded up
The allotment and tender process of stalls in the festival has reached the final stage. A target has been set to complete all the preparations in the first week of December, so that the program can be started without any delay. The inauguration will be done by the Tourism Minister, while the responsibility of closing and award distribution will be handled by the Chief Minister. Several teams of administrative officials are inspecting the site so that every arrangement can be completed on time.
