Katihar : A woman, Preeti Devi, lives in the airport area of Katihar district of Bihar. The local residents here fondly know her as Acharwali Didi. Today she is hoisting the flag of her unique taste. The popularity of the pickles prepared by them is no longer limited to Bihar, but is also in constant demand in big cities like Delhi, Gujarat and Bengaluru. Now this pickle has given a different identity to Preeti Devi.
Nephew’s friends liked the pickle
Preeti Devi tells that this journey started just by chance. Once he prepared mango pickle for his family at home. He gave this pickle to his nephew studying in Bangalore. When the nephew tasted this pickle to his friends, everyone became crazy about it. Friends praised the taste and suggested that Preeti didi should adopt this art on a larger scale. With this inspiration he started pickle business.
Pickles are made in more than 26 flavors
After this, Preeti Devi started supplying it to the local markets of Katihar and Bihar. Whose name was Pragya pickle brand, but as people tasted their pickles, the demand increased rapidly. Preeti Devi today prepares more than 26 flavors of pickles, including healthy options like raw turmeric, garlic, ginger and capsicum. These unique flavors have given them a different identity. Preeti Devi makes her pickles in a completely different style from the market pickles.
Make pickles in homemade mustard oil
She prepares pickles in the traditional way in homemade mustard oil, which makes it taste amazing. This is the reason why whoever tastes their pickle once cannot help but order it again. The taste of this pickle is not only delicious but also guarantees profits. Preeti Devi says that she prepares up to 3-4 quintals of mango pickle at a time, whereas she makes up to 50 kg of other flavours. Which are sold within a few days.
The price of pickle is Rs 300 per kg
She prepares packets at the rate of Rs 300 per kg. They earn good money from this pickle packet. Preeti Devi is now branding her own pickles, named Pragya Achar. Today, along with being financially empowered, Preeti Devi has become an inspiration for hundreds of women. This journey of ‘Achar Wali Didi’ proves that the taste of skill, hard work and trust can reach anywhere.
