Garlic Farming Tips: If the stubble is spread properly in the field at the time of sowing garlic, then it proves to be very effective in weed control. The stubble acts as a natural mulch on the soil, due to which moisture is maintained, weeds do not grow and the crop gradually rots and gets free organic fertilizer. This also strengthens the yield of garlic and the cost automatically reduces.
Shahjahanpur : The best time for garlic cultivation in Uttar Pradesh is between October to mid-December. As the weather begins to cool, garlic cloves establish more easily in the soil and the plants’ initial growth is stronger. Generally, the time from 15 October to 15 December is considered suitable for sowing, while the time from the last week of October to the second week of November is the peak season for planting garlic.
The temperature during this period remains between 12 to 20 degrees Celsius, which is ideal for the germination of garlic, while a temperature of 20–25 degrees is considered better for its further growth. If farmers sow late, the nodes remain small, production reduces and the risk of diseases and pests may increase. If you are sowing garlic crop these days, then do necessary work for weed control at the time of sowing, doing this will further reduce the cost.
How to control weeds?
Progressive young farmer Karamjit Singh said that the garlic crop is ready in a short period of time. The special thing is that once garlic is sown, there is no need to take much care. Garlic crop requires weeding and hoeing, in which the farmers have to incur cost, but if the farmers do the work for weed control at the time of sowing, then there will be no need to do weeding and hoeing later. After sowing the garlic, the farmers should put the paddy crop residue stubble in the field.
Do this trick with stubble
After planting garlic seeds, farmers should spread the paddy crop residue in the entire field. Keep in mind that spread the stubble in such a way that the ground is completely covered and then irrigate it. By doing this the stubble will slowly rot and turn into manure. Due to this, there will be no need to give separate fertilizer to the garlic crop and weeds will also not grow there. The cost of weeding for weed control will also be reduced.
