The Industries Department of Bihar Government will provide free training in 18 traditional handicrafts including Mithila painting. Admission has started for 400 seats for the half yearly session running from January to June 2026 in Upendra Maharathi Crafts Research Institute, Patna. Interested candidates can apply online on the official website www.umsas.org.in till 20th December.
If you also want to become a master of the traditional handicrafts of Bihar, from Mithila painting to paper mache, then now you do not need to wander here and there. Bihar government will give you free training under the Industries Department. For this, the admission process has started for the half yearly session running from January to June 2026 at Upendra Maharathi Crafts Research Institute, Patna.
The institute has announced free training on 400 seats in total 18 traditional arts including Madhubani painting, Tikuli art. This institute is located in Patliputra Industrial Area of the capital Patna. It takes the responsibility of preserving the art of the state and also educates the youth and connects them with employment.
The application process will be completely online. Interested candidates will be able to submit their applications by visiting the official website of the institute www.umsas.org.in. The last date for application has been fixed as 20th December at 11:59 pm. The institute has advised the candidates to complete the application on time, so that they do not miss the opportunity due to any technical mistake.

As part of the selection process, the documents of the candidates will first be thoroughly scrutinized. If the documents are found correct, the candidates will be called for practical test and interview. The final selection will be only for those candidates who perform successfully in both the stages. That means, both skill and preparation will be necessary to get training.
The institute has also invited applications for trainer. The applicant should have proven experience of training work under government schemes, and the age limit has been fixed at 30 to 60 years. Valid artisan card of the concerned art is also mandatory.
As honorarium, National Award winning trainers will be given Rs 50,000, State Award winning trainers will be given Rs 30,000, MFA/BFA degree holders will be given Rs 25,000 and other categories will be given Rs 20,000 per month.
Upendra Maharathi Crafts Research Institute (UMSAS) is a premier craft development institute under the Industries Department of the Government of Bihar.
