Patna. The Education Department has released the school holiday calendar for the year 2026. According to the new calendar, a total of 65 holidays have been scheduled in the entire academic year, excluding Sundays. The department has also clarified that no changes have been made in any festival holiday already decided. This time in the calendar, winter vacation has been fixed from 25th December to 31st December, which will be of total 7 days.
The Education Department has issued clear and strict instructions to the schools that schools will remain open on important national festivals like annual festivals, Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti and holidays will be given only after the completion of the program. The department has also made it mandatory that appropriate amount of homework be given to the students during summer vacation, Diwali-Chhath vacation and winter vacation and the process of evaluation should be ensured when the school opens. The issued notification will be equally applicable to all types of government schools.
Important holidays declared for 2026 are as follows
- Makar Sankranti – 14 January
- Basant Panchami – 23 January
- Republic Day – 26 January (Holiday after school program)
- Sant Ravidas Jayanti – 1 February
- Mahashivratri – 15 February
- Holi holiday – 3rd and 4th March
- Summer Vacation – June 1 to June 20 (20 days, including two Sundays)
- Durga Puja Holiday – 17th October to 21st October (5 days)
- Diwali-Chhath holiday – 7th November to 17th November (total 10 days including Diwali, Chitragupta Puja and Chhath)
- Winter Vacation – 25th December to 31st December (7 days)
The department has also said that the dates of Muslim festivals may change depending on the sighting of the moon.
