Lucknow: Three and a half crore consumers of Uttar Pradesh are going to get a big shock in the month of December. Because this month they will have to pay additional electricity bill. According to the new order issued by Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, the highest ever fuel surcharge will be charged from consumers in December. A fuel surcharge of 5.56% has been imposed adjusting the fuel cost difference for September. In the month of December alone, Power Corporation will make additional recovery of approximately Rs 264 crore.
Surplus worth Rs 51000 crore with power companies
According to Awadhesh Kumar Verma, President of Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council, the electricity consumers of the state are making a surplus of about Rs 18 thousand 592 crore on the electricity companies this year alone. Before this, surplus of Rs 33 thousand 122 crore already exists. Overall, consumers have a surplus of more than Rs 51 thousand crore with power companies. Despite this, collecting fuel surcharge from consumers is wrong and contrary to consumer interests. As per rules, fuel surcharge should be taken from consumers only when the power companies have to bear the additional burden.
The burden on users is increasing
When such a huge surplus is already available to consumers, the fuel surcharge should be reduced to zero or adjusted by the surplus amount. While implementing the demand based tariff implemented in transmission, it was claimed that it would benefit the consumers, but on the contrary, the additional financial burden on the consumers is increasing.
The proposal to increase the electricity bill rate was rejected
The Consumer Council will soon formally meet the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission regarding this entire matter and demand reconsideration. Let us tell you that recently the proposal of UPPCL to increase the electricity bill rate in UP was also rejected. Yogi government tried to provide great relief to the people of the state with this decision. UPPCL says that the department is in loss of thousands of crores of rupees.
