Google is going to organize a special edition of The Android Show next week, in which the company will focus on its new Android XR platform. The company has also released a short teaser video and a special landing page on its website, which clearly shows that Google is going to show new features related to its XR (Extended Reality) technology in this event. This announcement has come at a time when Samsung launched its Galaxy XR headset just a few weeks ago.
Main focus will be on Android XR
Google said that the new episode of The Android Show will be held on December 8 at 10 am PT, which is 11:30 pm in India. is the tagline of the event. ‘exciting XR updates are coming in,’ which indicates that the company is going to show big upgrades related to XR.
The company has said, ‘From glasses to headsets’, that is, Google will offer new tools, features and developer support related to smart glasses and headsets.
The teaser video shows two Android bots, one wearing a Galaxy XR headset and the other presumably wearing Google’s upcoming XR smart glasses. This means that Google can show a glimpse of both smart glasses and headsets platforms at the event.
Partnership with Samsung and new devices
There is also a photo of the Samsung Galaxy XR headset on the event page, which shows that Google and Samsung are working together on XR technology. The Galaxy XR headset was launched last month at a price of USD 1,799 (approximately ₹ 1,58,000).
Google also recently showed prototypes of its Android XR smart glasses. These glasses include camera, mic, in-lens display and speakers. Google is making smart glasses in collaboration with companies like Samsung, Magic Leap, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Now it remains to be seen when it will arrive in India and what will be the price.
This show will be livestreamed on the YouTube channel of Android Developers. Google has also created a countdown page on its website android.com, where people can sign up for notifications. One line on this page catches our attention, which suggests that Google’s Gemini AI integration will also be shown in Android XR.
