Nokia used to make toilet paper
The multinational telecommunications, information technology and consumer electronics company Nokia was established in 1865. The company was established not to produce electronic products, but to convert pulp into toilet paper. Later it also started doing rubber and cable business. In 1990, Nokia focused on telecommunication infrastructure and technology development and within no time it became famous in the world.
Sony: The giant of electronics world from rice cooker
Sony was started in 1946 in Tokyo by Masaharu Ibukame and Akio Morita. The name of the company then was Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo. Its first product was an electric rice cooker, but it was not successful. Colgate used to make candles
William Colgate formed ‘William Colgate and Company’ in 1806 in New York, America, to make candles and soap. Initially Colgate manufactured only candles and soaps. The company started manufacturing toothpaste in 1873. This is where the company’s oral care products started. In 1896, the company introduced the first collapsible toothpaste tube. This made the use of toothpaste very convenient. In 1914, Colgate launched its first toothbrush in the market.
Toyota used to make looms
You will be surprised to know that the world’s largest automobile company Toyota initially manufactured automatic looms. Toyota started in 1934 to make automatic looms (cloth weaving machines). The name of the company was “Toyoda Automatic Loom Works”. The company started making cars much later.
Samsung used to sell vegetables
The famous electronics company Samsung was established in 1938 as a grocery store. The company, which exported dry fish, noodles and vegetables, entered electronics after 30 years i.e. in 1969.
Lamborghini tractor manufacturing started
Today Lamborghini is famous for its cars. But, it started in 1948 to make tractors. Ferruccio Lamborghini started making tractors from parts of old army trucks and military vehicles.
