A team of archaeologists has found the skeleton of a 2700-year-old woman in Greece, on whom a strange inverted crown was placed on her head. A shocking truth has also come to light in this matter. The age of the woman would have been around 20 to 30 years, in whose grave copper jewellery, ivory beads and bronze objects were found, which indicate her high social status.
History has always been full of mysteries. Many times the civilizations buried under the ground surprise us and their remains tell us about the society, traditions and balance of power of that time. Today we are telling you about one such historical discovery, which came to light during the excavation of the land. A team of archaeologists in Greece has found a 2,700-year-old skeleton of a woman, who had a strange and strange inverted crown placed on her head. Not only this, many more shocking things came to light from the grave, which shows that this woman must have belonged to a royal family. This archaeological excavation started when a plan was made to build a solar park. After this, local officials directed to start a thorough investigation and excavation to save any artefact.
Archaeologists’ findings revealed that other tombs at the site date back to the Archaic era, roughly around 700 BC. The skeleton they found, named ‘Burial of the Lady with the Inverted Diadem’, was aged between 20 and 30. The Greek Ministry of Culture and archaeologists from Greece worked together to excavate the site, with the aim of not only uncovering the meaning behind the artefacts, but also preserving them for future generations. Describing the discovery, a spokesperson for the team said, “An impressive bronze-banded royal crown was ceremoniously placed on his head as a sign of his superiority and position. In the center of the crown was a large ‘sun’ carved on the forehead.”
The spokesperson further said that this crown has a decoration of a pair of lion and lioness facing forward, which is considered a symbol of royal power and authority. In short, the crown contains symbols of power and authority dating back to the 7th century BC, but it was placed upside down on her head, giving the discovery a mysterious twist. Archaeologists have speculated that the crown being placed upside down may symbolize the fall of a ruler. This means that women may have lost their position of power during the turbulent times of the 7th century BC. Many luxury items were found in the area around the buried woman. These include copper earrings, bone and ivory beads, amulets and many bronze offerings.
Archaeologists speculate that the position and manner of the woman’s burial reflect changing social conditions in the mid-7th century BC. At that time the popularity of hereditary monarchy was declining and elite class was coming into vogue. The objects kept with him indicate that his social status was very high. The spokesperson said, “In the same group of graves, the grave of a little girl of about four years was also found, on whose head was a crown made of bronze.” This grave also belongs to the ancient period and in it also the same jewelery as that of the noble lady was found. This fact shows that there was a family or kinship relationship between the two. The cemetery where this excavation took place is organized into different groups, which include cremation pits and graves.
