Uttar Pradesh is moving rapidly towards building the largest expressway network in the country. In the next four years, 11 new expressways will be built in the state, the responsibility of which has been given to UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). Through these roads, the state’s connectivity with states like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar will be further strengthened.
New Delhi. Uttar Pradesh is preparing to take its road speed to the next level. The state, which already has the highest number of expressways in the country, is now going to add 11 more new expressways in the next four years. The construction and operation of these projects will be the responsibility of UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). After the construction of these roads, the connectivity of UP will not only be strengthened with neighboring states like Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar, but the journey from western areas of the state to Purvanchal will also become faster.
According to UPEIDA officials, the timeline for DPR, land acquisition, construction and completion of all expressways has been decided. According to the plan, by 2026 the state will be connected to the country’s longest expressway network. The special thing is that the Agra-Lucknow Expressway will be connected to the New Link Expressway via Farrukhabad, the land acquisition process of which is targeted to be completed by February 2026. At the same time, there is a plan to prepare Chitrakoot Link Expressway by August 2027. Apart from this, the Link Expressway being built on the border of the capital Lucknow will work to connect Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressway. Its alignment has been finalized and land acquisition will start by February.
Network of more than 1500 km
According to the action plan of UPEIDA, the alignment and estimates of Jewar Link, Jhansi Link, Meerut-Haridwar, Noida-Jewar, Chitrakoot-Rewa, Vidhya Expressway and Vidhya-Purvanchal Expressway will be prepared from November to February this year. The total length of all the proposed projects together will be more than 1500 kilometers. The purpose of these expressways is not only for faster travel but also to give a new direction to economic development. The UP government is working on the mission of converting the state into an industrial hub. After connecting mega cities like Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi in the last few years, now the focus is on connecting Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
Preparation of industrial corridor along every highway
Along with the new expressways, the government is also developing industrial corridors along every major road. Manufacturing, logistics and warehousing hubs will be created in these corridors, which will accelerate both local employment and investment. There has been a flood of investment proposals from Bundelkhand to Purvanchal and Terai areas. In such a situation, better road connectivity will play an important role in getting these investments off the ground.
Travel time will reduce, speedometer of development will increase
The new expressway network will not only reduce travel time between cities, but will also give new strength to the freight and transport sector. The link roads and ring roads connected with the expressway will directly connect the cities, which will also reduce the traffic pressure.
